5 Easy Ways To Start Developing
Your Online Reputation

by Derek

Would you like to begin developing your online reputation?

You are not alone.

You understand the importance of online reputation management, but you may lack the experience and/or expertise to implement specific action plans. This quick list should help you get started.

Lets dive in and learn how to stand out among the competition.

1. Create a Press Page

The press page is extremely important in online reputation management for two reasons: linking your positive press helps it rank higher and positive media mentions help build credibility.

2. Use A Sub-Domain

Have you ever did a Google search for Google? How about Yahoo? They control all of their search results by using sub-domains.

For your business, some good examples of sub-domains are: blog.yourbusiness.com or forum.yourbusiness.com. Be aware: you need content with incoming links for the website to rank. So, if you plan on creating a forum or a blog, you need to realize it is a full-time project.

3. Build a Profile

There are hundreds of large social-media websites that allow you to create a profile. Selecting a few of them to promote your online presence is a strategic reputation tactic. However, do not spam these profile pages as they will actually detract from your credibility.

Here are a few large social media websites that should suit your needs:

  1. Digg
  2. Twitter
  3. Myspace
  4. Youtube
  5. Technorati
  6. Stumbleupon
  7. Linkedin

These are not necessarily the social media websites you should use to promote your business as there may be more niche focused ones that will work better.

4. Start A Google Adwords Campaign

One of the fastest ways to get positive search results in the search engines is by preparing a pay-per-click campaign for your desired keyword. While this could be expensive, its a fast and temporary solution to a reputation crisis.

5. Create a Google Knol page and a Wikipedia page

Between Google Knol and Wikipedia, you should be able to guarantee two spots in your top 10 search results. Oh, and with Google Knol, you can set yourself as the only editor.

Here are some quick tips to insure your Google Knol and Wikipedia page rank:

  • Make them comprehensive and filled with detail
  • Link them from your newly created Press page

Overall, make them both informative and useful. Remember, replacing negative results with poor results doesn’t necessarily help your situation.

Just the beginning…
